Convened the IV MAXAM-DOWN MADRID-AEPE

Painting Contest for people with Down Syndrome or other intellectual disability

The Down Syndrome Foundation Madrid, in collaboration with the Maxam Foundation and the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors, has just called the IV Maxam Painting Contest for people with Down Syndrome or another intellectual disability.

Fundación MAXAM, Down Madrid and the AEPE today announced the convening of the IV MAXAM Painting Contest for people with intellectual disabilities. From November 21, 2019 until February 24, 2020, artists with intellectual disabilities who wish may present their works.

The central theme of these should be a free interpretation of “If It Happens To Be”, recently incorporated by MAXAM to its collection of paintings, the work of Chema Cobo, and image of the MAXAM Calendar of 2020, and that during the next few days will be exhibited at the Carlos de Antwerp Foundation on Claudio Coello Street, 99 in Madrid.

The winning works and finalists will be exhibited to the public in a sample that will take place in March 2020 at the Casa de Vacas of Madrid’s Buen Retiro Park.

“The contest aims to give an opportunity to people with intellectual disabilities, showing their sensibilities and abilities. This is a group with a high creative potential, which is finally being recognized worldwide for its original perception, freshness and quality of his works , “explains Fernanda Cardama, Patron of the MAXAM Foundation and Global Head People & Resources of MAXAM.

With this type of initiative, artists with intellectual disabilities claim the artistic value of their creations. In Spain, these artists are gradually gaining social recognition with demonstrating their participation in prestigious exhibitions such as the Autumn Salon, organized annually by the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors.

This project is part of the continuous collaboration of these three institutions for years in projects with which to promote social inclusion, training and employment of people with Down syndrome or intellectual disability.

It will be this other occasion in which the AEPE collaborates and participates in a sociocultural action, since since 2016, in which the 1st Workshop of Inclusive Culture of Drawing at Carboncillo was held, the centennial artistic institution is increasingly immersed in specific actions that fill with art the special world of those who live this disability.

This same year 2019, within the framework of the 86th Autumn Salon, and for the third time, the AEPE included the Down Syndrome Painting Medal for artists of this group, thus offering them the opportunity to exhibit their work within the framework of An artistic show of the first order.

The distinction of Javier Sierra, in the Diario de Teruel

The cover of the Diario de Teruel of November 12, 2019, echoes the news of the recognition of the Turolense Javier Sierra as Honorary Member of the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors.

Inside, the news expands and we discover how everything related to the writer is reported in his hometown, the most prominent example of a “prophet in his land,” who recently also received the distinction of Teruel’s Favorite Son, which has a park near the neighborhood where he lived that now bears his name, and that houses the legacy of Javier Sierra in the Public Library of Teruel, which since September, was officially renamed the State Public Library in Teruel Javier Sierra.

As we can see, any news related to one of his most illustrious “children” interests and even more so when it comes to a distinction such as that of Honor Partner, going to swell the list of names among which kings appear, such as Alfonso XIII or the Queen María Cristina, to patrons like the Duke of Alba or the Marquis of Aledo, personalities from the world of culture as writers, composers, art critics and gallery owners such as José Francés or Antonio Cobos and artists such as Eugenio Hermoso, Benedito, Vázquez Díaz. ….

Mª Dolores Barreda Pérez, Perpetual Secretary of the AEPE

Mª Dolores Barreda Pérez received on November 7, 2019 an unexpected surprise when, in the framework of the jury’s decision, awards ceremony and inauguration of the 86th Autumn Salon of the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors, the most artistic event Ancient and prestigious of all those summoned in Spain, he received the title of “Perpetual Secretary” of the centenary entity.
N the event, which took place in the Casa de Vacas of Madrid’s Buen Retiro Park, was attended by a multitude of artistic personalities, such as the Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Community of Madrid, Marta Rivera de la Cruz, guy and mengano, the President of the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors, José Gabriel Astudillo, accompanied by his entire Board of Directors and artists such as Eduardo Naranjo, Alejandro Aguilar Soria, Ricardo Sanz, Paula Varona, the dean of the Art Critics, Tomás Paredes. .. municipal authorities and the general public.
Just when the title of “AEPE Honorary Member” had already been delivered to the journalist and writer Javier Sierra, and before the Secretary General herself proceeded to read the minutes of the Jury of the 86th Autumn Room, the President of the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors, José Gabriel Astudillo, skipping the established protocol, took the floor to read an Addendum to the Minutes of the meeting of the Board of Directors on June 18, 2019, in which it is explained that taking advantage of an absence of Secretary General of the entity, Mª Dolores Barreda Pérez, responsible for raising the official minutes of the session, and with the unanimity of the members of the Board, it was agreed to “distinguish Mª Dolores Barreda Pérez with the title of SECRETARY PERPETUAL OF THE ASSOCIATION SPANISH PAINTS AND SCULPTORS, in recognition of their excellent and unparalleled work and dedication to the entity.

We believe that it is fair to recognize the work of those people who are exceptional and essential in the art world, people who make real the saying that success always precedes work.
All the partners enjoy that success thanks to the attitude and work of those who make us bigger every day as an institution and ensure that day by day is attended not only diligently, but correctly and in a gratifying way. That is why this institution is better every day and provides an image of seriousness and prestige that, as I said, benefits everyone.
Placing a centennial entity of the first order in the 21st century has been an important challenge that our Secretary General has amply achieved in a work model that not only is the most successful, but that more than meets and exceeds the expectations generated in this regard. .
Modernization, transparency and attention and closeness to the needs of the associates have been an unwritten rule with which it has managed to awaken the spirit of our entity and thus contribute to the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors has developed as a diversified institution and open to the outside, until it becomes a modern and prosperous reality.
But in addition, preserving the history and heritage of the entity has been a priority in the work of Mª Dolores Barreda Pérez, who is carrying out through the Historical Archive “Bernardino de Pantorba”, a project that has crossed borders and makes us captain the research work on the history of art in Spain in the 20th century.
Its involvement is also leading us to recover the memory of the first artists of the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors and to be present, in this way, in the most important cultural events celebrated in Spain for this reason.
In the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors we have the honor of having magnificent artists, with exemplary people who have achieved success with a lot of work, dedication and talent.
And one of them is Mª Dolores Barreda Pérez, journalist, Director of the Gazette of Fine Arts, researcher, art historian, member of the Spanish Association of Art Critics but, above all, a magnificent person of overwhelming personality, who is of justice recognize and applaud his special dedication and dedication, his good work, full of commitment and honesty, his charisma, authenticity and talent.
The Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors is increasingly prestigious and great because it knows how to recognize those who have a special talent and feel committed to making their work an engine for the expansion of that talent.

That is why Mª Dolores Barreda Pérez is a good portrait of the entity we want, with values and that values work, the desire to improve and the shared effort. It is the portrait of those people who fight every day for art, for artists, for culture and who do it also, investing a time, effort and a totally altruistic will and that must be recognized,
An entity is worthy of admiration when its members are too and when it treats those admirable people as they deserve. That is why we have the obligation to recognize this merit and in this way the Board of Directors of the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors wants to do it on behalf of all its partners, because making our entity better is a matter for everyone. Only in this way do we achieve that the best years of the artistic history of Spain are those that lie ahead, those that remain to be lived and those that remain to be written.
And so we signed in Madrid, on June 18, 2019, the rest of the members of the Board of Directors of the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors, keeping this resolution secret until the delivery of the distinction, which will take place within the framework of the Opening ceremony of the 86th Autumn Salon held at the Casa de Vacas of Madrid’s Parque del Retiro on November 7, 2019 ”.
Excited and visibly surprised, Mª Dolores Barreda Pérez picked up a plaque from the President and with the emotion of the moment, she was only able to thank everyone for the immense honor that the appointment entails, since in the entire history of the centenary entity, only There has been a Perpetual Secretary whose memory draws on countless historical accounts of the AEPE.

Javier Sierra, Honorary Partner of the AEPE

The journalist, bestselling author and Javier Planeta Novel Award, regular collaborator of the AEPE, received last November 7, 2019, the title of Honorary Member of the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors, in the framework of the inauguration of the 86th Autumn Salon organized by this centennial entity, the oldest and most prestigious artistic contest of all those that are convened in Spain.

The event, which took place in the Casa de Vacas of Madrid’s Buen Retiro Park, was attended by many artistic personalities, such as the Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Community of Madrid, Marta Rivera de la Cruz, the President of the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors, José Gabriel Astudillo, accompanied by its Board of Directors, members of the Jury such as Mª Dolores Barreda Pérez, General Secretary of the AEPE and artists such as Eduardo Naranjo, Alejandro Aguilar Soria, Ricardo Sanz, Paula Varona, José Vicente Moreno Huart, Tomás Paredes … municipal authorities and the general public.

The award was presented by the Secretary General of the AEPE, Mª Dolores Barreda Pérez, who proceeded to read the minutes in which it is stated that:

“The Board of Directors of the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors, meeting in ordinary session on June 18, 2019, has unanimously agreed to grant the title of SOCIO DE HONOR to Javier Sierra, whose collaboration and close friendship with the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors is becoming stronger and more committed.

“Journalist and writer, whose human profile surpasses the professional; man of integrity, simple, human, helpful, humble, attentive, whose smile triggers unusual diplomacies, and who like himself likes to describe himself, has the job of curious.

In recognition of his friendship and exemplarity, his enormous prestige and for having contributed in a relevant way to the significance of our entity, appreciating the activities that the association promotes and responding to the foundational objectives of fostering relations between the art world and the creation.

As a sign of our gratitude for their continued support, accompaniment and complicity in the work of this Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors, and in recognition of their trajectory in the field of research and dissemination of art, highlighting the contribution that with their works He has managed to bring the world of art closer to millions of readers around the world.

To all the artists, he has also seduced us in a game of intrigues and mysteries of which he is a master, but above all, he has launched a special invitation to the world to visit one of the best art galleries such as the Prado Museum, with which he is Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors has always kept a close relationship, since some of its Presidents were also directors of it.

That millions of people discover through their pen wonderful works of art under a new vision, it is the great legacy that we thank today through this appointment that prides not only our entity, our Partners and friends, but artists all over the world. world.

It is in this way that we would like to thank you for pushing us to find the soul of each artist through his works and making art a window to the invisible, to the truly valuable that the human being harbors.

For all this, we are pleased to name Javier Sierra, Honorary Member of the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors. ”

Afterwards, Javier Sierra collected from the hands of José Gabriel Astudillo, President of the AEPE, the accrediting diploma and a plaque, while the applause of an enthusiastic audience resonated and who has valued the work that a writer of his prestige and what this means worldwide.

For his part, Javier Sierra recalled the occasions in which he has collaborated directly with the centenary entity and especially appreciated the effort he makes to continue supporting the world of creation in Spain with such an important and impressive background.

His special collaboration with the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors began in 2014, when at the headquarters of the centennial entity, he presented for the first time to a specialized audience, composed of painters, restorers, art critics and artists in general, the novel The Master of the Prado.

As Javier Sierra himself said at the time, it was the first time since the novel was published, which was aimed especially at an audience consisting mainly of painters, that is, those who tell the stories he has told with his canvases wanted to unravel in his book, making them notice the importance of how much they paint for all those who observe his works.

In the month of June 2014, the AEPE held an end of course party, a special day of open doors attended by the students of the Portrait Workshop, friends, partners and artists who wanted to make a great session in which they painted who wanted to pose for the occasion, and in which we had an exceptional model such as the well-known writer and journalist Javier Sierra, who maintains a close relationship with the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors of collaboration and unconditional support.

But there was also another surprise and that is that the television network Telemadrid, wanted to live with us the exciting session and this was reflected in its news of 9, with a report prepared by the journalist Teresa Iborra, who approached all viewers the reality of the portrait in Spain.

There is a circumstance that this was the first time that television entered our headquarters in Infantas Street. It is true that many other events organized by the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors have already been on television, but this was the first time that our headquarters did.

Javier Sierra, who was delighted to pose for such a varied turnout, delighted those gathered there and was, as usual, attentive, kind, solicitous and patient, declaring to feel “very honored” to make an impromptu model .

In September of that same year, Javier Sierra surprised us by mentioning the centennial Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors in the book that had just seen the light “The Immortal Pyramid”, the last book by Javier Sierra in which Napoléon faces one of man’s greatest desires: eternal life. In 2002 Sierra published “Napoleon’s Egyptian Secret”, but this time it was a complete, improved review of a rewrite of that adventure, with a better plot and new characters.

The generosity of its author towards our entity, led him to include the full name of the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors in the Acknowledgments section, where José Gabriel Astudillo and Mª Dolores Barreda are mentioned as President and Secretary General respectively. As the author told us, he could have mentioned them individually and privately, but he preferred to give back part of the love he has always received from artists and partners.

Javier Sierra counted for the edition of this book with the special collaboration of José Gabriel Astudillo, who made four drawings of some bas-reliefs, which is why it also appears in the first pages of it.

Already in March 2015, Javier Sierra did not hesitate to accept the invitation of the AEPE to be part of the Jury of the 50th Reina Sofía Prize for Painting and Sculpture, repeating his collaboration in the editions of the 51, 52, 53 and 54 Reina Sofía Prize.

Javier Sierra (Teruel, 1971) is not only one of the most translated fiction authors of recent times – around a quarantine of languages - but he is the only Spanish writer who has managed to climb the bestseller list of The New York Times He entered the coveted top ten in 2006 with The Secret Dinner.

Expert of the historical enigma thriller and author of a dozen books between novels and essays, Sierra has more than a decade proving his radio and television communicator skills, as a Tertullian, regular collaborator or even director of several programs for the little girl screen, always around the mystery and the past. Among his works, in addition to the aforementioned bestseller, The Secret Dinner (2004), the novels The Master of the Prado (2013) and The Immortal Pyramid (2014), without neglecting his essay production with great acceptance by the public with titles such as La forbidden route and other enigmas of History (2007) and In Search of the Golden Age (2000).

Javier Sierra may well boast of being “a prophet in his land”, since last year he received the title of Favorite Son of Teruel, and this year a park was inaugurated in his honor in the city of Teruel, in the neighborhood of El Carrel in which the writer lived between 1978 and 1985, and as a brilliant climax, since September 2019, the public library of the city of Teruel is called the State Public Library in Teruel Javier Sierra.

With the delivery of this distinction, the AEPE wants to recognize its special involvement with an artistic institution very honored to have friends and collaborators who value the work that involves having captained the artistic work of twentieth-century Spain and have managed to get renewed and current to the 21st century.

That millions of people discover through their pen wonderful works of art under a new vision, is the great legacy that we thank today through this appointment that prides not only our entity, our Partners and friends, but the artists from all over the world. world.
It is in this way that we would like to thank you for pushing us to look for the soul of each artist through his works and making art a window to the invisible, to the truly valuable that the human being harbors.
For all this, we are pleased to name Javier Sierra, Honorary Member of the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors. ”

Afterwards, the President of the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors, José Gabriel Astudillo, addressed the attendees in which he thanked the work of the Jury, the collaborating institutions, Maxam and its Foundation, as well as all the artists who make the contest possible. He also wanted to highlight the work of his Board of Directors, making special mention of the continuous, constant and always effective work of the General Secretary, Mª Dolores Barreda Pérez, which he described as the authentic “alma mater” of the centenary entity.
It was at that time when, outside of any protocol, he proceeded to read an Addendum to the Minutes of the meeting of the Board of Directors on June 18, 2019, in which it is explained that taking advantage of an absence of the General Secretary of the entity, Mª Dolores Barreda Pérez, responsible for raising the official minutes of the session, and with the unanimity of the members of the Board, it was agreed to distinguish Mª Dolores Barreda Pérez with the title of PERPETUAL SECRETARY OF THE SPANISH ASSOCIATION OF PAINTS AND SCULPTORS, in recognition to his excellent and unstoppable work and dedication to the entity.

And so we signed it in Madrid, on June 18, 2019, the rest of the members of the Board of Directors of the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors, keeping this resolution secret until the delivery of the distinction, which will take place within the framework of the Opening ceremony of the 86th Autumn Salon held at the Casa del Vacas of Madrid’s Parque del Retiro on November 7, 2019.

The Maxam Foundation, official sponsor of the 86 Fall Show

On October 29, 2019, the signing of the Collaboration Agreement between the MAXAM Foundation and the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors took place, making it possible to carry out the 86th edition of the traditional Autumn Salon, the oldest and most recent artistic exhibition and exhibition prestigious of all those celebrated in Spain.

The event brought together Lucas Ferreira, on behalf of the Maxam Foundation, and José Gabriel Astudillo López, President of the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors, who signed a document that includes the special collaboration that the Maxam Foundation maintains with our entity and renews its commitment to the work in support of the new artists that the centennial artistic institution has been doing

The event was attended by the General Secretary of the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors, Mª Dolores Barreda Pérez, and other members of the Board of Directors such as Alicia Sánchez Carmona, Paloma Casado, Carmen Bonilla Carrasco, Fernando de Marta and Itziar Zabalza Murillo.

In this way, the Maxam Foundation becomes the official sponsoring entity of the 86 Autumn Salon, as it has been doing for the past 20 years and in the words of José Fernando Sánchez-Junco, President of the MAXAM Foundation, “time passes, but what that continues – growing, evolving and adapting to the new habits, demands and interests of our society – is the work that from AEPE and Fundación MAXAM we carry out in favor of culture and education ”.

“Culture and education have a fundamental role in the progress and development of our society. Without them, the sustainability commitment with which we work from the MAXAM Foundation would be impossible to leave as a legacy to those who follow us an even better world than we have encountered. An objective that goes through the development of our own initiatives (the MAXAM Paint Collection, the House of the Explosive in the Museum of Mining and Industry of Asturias, the Chair-Company of Technology of the Explosive in the ETSIME of the University Polytechnic of Madrid,…) how to support institutions as strong as the AEPE and get involved with initiatives as well organized as its Autumn Salon ”.

According to José Gabriel Astudillo, President of the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors, “this sponsorship is essential for the AEPE because it reinforces the unstoppable work and effort that entities such as ours have been making in favor of art and culture and because they consolidate many others carried out for more than a hundred years, both at the Maxam Foundation, with its spectacular Collection of calendars, and by the AEPE, whose partners were authors of many of them ”.

The exhibition of selected and awarded works opens to the public tomorrow, October 31, although it will not be until next November 7, at 7 p.m., when the act of the jury’s decision, awards ceremony and inauguration takes place Official of the exhibition at the Casa de Vacas of Madrid’s Buen Retiro Park.

The AEPE to the conquest of China

The President of the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors, José Gabriel Astudillo López, is currently traveling to China, bound for Shanghai, accompanied by AEPE partners Ramón Córdoba Calderón, Coro López-Izquierdo and Luis Javier Gayá, in a promising trip whose main objective is to promote the painting of Spain and open market in the Asian giant.

This first trip is the culmination of the collaboration agreement recently signed by the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors with the entity Xianxia Ling (Qingdao Shengxinyu Artwork Co., Ltd), which organizes artistic activities of all kinds, and helps the painters and Sculptors of Chinese nationality, are more visible internationally through their Wechat platform and Collection magazine.

As a result of this special collaboration and in order to provide greater visibility of Spanish artists and members of the AEPE in China, and of Chinese artists in Spain, the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors has invited to participate in the 86th Hall of Autumn to the Chinese artists (outside the contest and without the possibility of obtaining awards) that have been officially selected by the jury of the AEPE, and whose work will be exhibited in the sample of the awarded and selected works of the 86 Autumn Salon, which of the October 31 to November 24, 2019, will be held at the Casa del Vacas in Madrid’s Parque del Retiro.

In the same way, the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors sent the dossiers and curriculum of more than fifty artists interested in the project, so that the jury appointed by the Chinese entity, chose three Spanish artists, who are already traveling to Shanghai, to the city of Luzhi.

In this first selection of artists, whose only condition at the time of being selected has been to work the realistic landscaping, the jury formed by the Director of the Shengxinyu Art Institut, by the Director of the Collection magazine, the Secretary General of the Association China of Collectors, the President of the Fujian Artists Association, a prestigious Chinese painter, a professor at the Central Academy of Dramatic Arts, and by the Director of the Shengxinyu Art Institute Spain, has selected artist partners Ramón Córdoba, Coro López -Izquierdo and Luis Javier Gaya, to travel, for more than fifteen days in China, demonstrating their art and mastery and giving practical classes in nature, painting landscapes, directing presentations, visiting studios of artists of the country and knowing first-hand their main galleries and museums

In addition, José Gabriel Astudillo López, President of the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors and representing the centennial entity, and with a busy schedule, will hold a series of meetings with different galleries, Chinese artistic associations, universities and artists in general, with The intention is to promote the Spanish partner artists and the AEPE itself, which will develop an ambitious project whose fruits are beginning to be seen.

“We want to promote the painting of Spain and open the market,” says José Gabriel Astudillo, President of the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors, “China is the first world power in the art market and can be a wonderful shuttle to give greater visibility to the artist partners and thus obtain greater popularity internationally. This is only the first step of a fruitful collaboration in which all, the artist partners, the Spanish fine arts and culture, win ”.

“It will be a wonderful experience that we will share with partners and friends and that we can expand so that more and more artists are able to reach the Chinese public, eager for a market as prestigious as the art of Spain.”
