Queen Doña Sófía will preside on Thursday, March 5 in the Assembly Hall of the Casa de Vacas of Madrid’s Parque del Retiro, the act in which the jury’s decision will be announced and the 55th Queen Prize will be awarded Painting and Sculpture Sofia organized by the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors, in collaboration with Google.

The event will be attended by the President of the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors, José Gabriel Astudillo López, the Director of Policies and Public Affairs of Google Spain, Antonio Vargas, the members of the Jury as well as different personalities from the world of culture and authorities.

The 55 QUEEN SOFÍA DE PAINTURA AND ESCULTURA AWARD is endowed with 10,000 euros for a single work, having already become a benchmark prize and one of the best gifted in Spain, which has the collaboration of the technology giant GOOGLE, after five editions in the new format, for this edition has expanded its borders with a turn towards internationalization, extending to creators around the world, reflecting the commitment of the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors with art and culture.

The Prize is thus endorsed by an exceptional jury, authentic art professionals with diverse and very different perspectives on creation, ranging from theory to art practice, and including curating, conservation, journalism … but always with a link Very special and exclusive with the field of art they represent.

The Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors inaugurated on Friday, March 2, the exhibition of the works selected in the 53rd REINA SOFIA OF PAINTING AND SCULPTURE PRIZE organized by this centenary entity, with the collaboration of Google.

The exhibition of the selected works at the 53rd Reina Sofía Prize for Painting and Sculpture turned out to be a tremendous success, recognized by the numerous visitors who attended the opening ceremony of the exhibition, which according to the present critics is a magnificent exhibition that has doubled prestige and quality, and that reflects the authentic diversity and current contemporary art of our country.

At the opening ceremony, chaired by the President of the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors, José Gabriel Astudillo, who was accompanied by Juan de la Cruz Pallarés, Vice President, the General Secretary, Mª Dolores Barreda Pérez and the rest of the Board members Directive, also attended by the Deputy Minister of Culture of the Community of Madrid, Álvaro Ballarín, as well as some of the members of the jury such as Eduardo Naranjo, Alejandro Aguilar Soria and Javier Rubio Nomblot.

On Friday the 53rd Queen Sophia Prize for Painting and Sculpture opens

53 REINA SOFÍA AWARD OF PAINTING AND SCULPTURE

YE. Queen Sofia will preside next Thursday March 8 the act of the Jury’s decision and delivery of the Prize organized by the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors, and that has the collaboration of Google

the 78 works (49 paintings and 29 sculptures) selected for the occasion

The event will be chaired by the President of the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors, José Gabriel Astudillo López, the members of the Board of Directors as well as different personalities from the world of culture and other authorities.


The 53rd QUEEN SOFIA PAINTING AND SCULPTURE AWARD has turned out to be an excellent proposal of the best Spanish artists, some already outstanding, others new, which has had the support of the specialized Jury assembled for this important prize, formed by José Gabriel Astudillo López, President of the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors, Mª Dolores Barreda Pérez, General Secretary of the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors, Antonio Vargas Cano de Santayana, Manager of Policies and Public Affairs of Google, Antonio López, Painter and Academician of The Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, Julio López Hernández, Sculptor and Academician of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, Eduardo Naranjo, Painter, sculptor, engraver and Academician of the Royal Academy of Arts and Letters of Extremadura , Alejandro Aguilar Soria, Painter, sculptor, multidisciplinary artist and author of the visual image of the award, Evaristo Guer ra, Painter, Javier Sierra, Journalist, Writer and Planeta Award 2017, Javier Rubio Nomblot, Art Critic and curator and Tomás Paredes Romero, President of the Spanish Association of Art Critics.


The 53 QUEEN SOFIA PAINTING AND SCULPTURE AWARD is endowed with 10,000 euros to a single work, becoming the second best endowed prize in Spain. Google is the entity that has collaborated to make possible that this award, which until only four years ago was reserved only for members of the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors, becomes an open call to all of Spain.

JURY AND OPENING OF THE EXHIBITION 51 QUEEN SOFIA PRIZE PAINTING AND SCULPTURE

The Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors opened on 4 February at the exhibition of the selected 51 QUEEN SOFIA AWARD of painting and sculpture organized by this centennial institution, in collaboration with Google works.

The exhibition will remain open until February 29 at the Casa de Vacas Parque del Buen Retiro in Madrid, comprises a total of 66 works (42 paintings and 24 sculptures) among which is the winning work this year, and the winner is announced in the same opening ceremony.

The exhibition of 51 Queen Sofia Prize for Painting and Sculpture is scheduled to precede the acts that will make Madrid the epicenter of contemporary art at international level, holding four fairs and more than 150 exhibits. Essential in the international calendar of contemporary art.

51 QUEEN SOFIA AWARD of painting and sculpture is worth 10,000 euros to a single work, thanks to Google collaborating organization, which since last year makes it possible for this award, which so far was reserved only for members of the Association Spanish Painters and Sculptors, to be open to all Spanish artists.

The jury also wanted to name four finalists , highlighting the high quality of the work presented : Albano, Rodrigo Hurtado Parra, Andres Lasanta and Alberto Martin Giraldo, “all of them, young talents have in common -a say the jury itself a splendid artistic talent, creative personality and a huge disparity trends and styles that entitles them special recognition”.

And after intense deliberations and voting, as required by an award of this nature and by a majority, the jury decided that 51 Reina Sofía Prize for Painting and Sculpture is granted to the valencian painter Cristina Gamón Lázaro, author of ” Infinite 45 ” a painting mixed media on 125×200 methacrylate, in the words of the jury “represents an abstraction of great fluidity and freshness which is a balanced and harmonious art worthy of representing all summed up in one work”.

The exhibition is an excellent proposal of the best Spanish artists, some highlights and other novel, which coincided with the presence in Madrid of the International Public important and has the backing of specialized Jury gathered for this important prize, consisting of Jose Gabriel Astudillo López, President of the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors, Mª Dolores Barreda Pérez, General Secretary of the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors, Antonio Vargas, Google, the painter, sculptor and engraver Rafael Canogar, painter Eduardo Naranjo, the painter, sculptor and multidisciplinary artist Alejandro Aguilar Soria, author of the visual image of the prize, the journalist and writer Javier Sierra, President of the National Association of Art Critics, Tomás Paredes, Alma Ramas, Director of the Fiart Foundation (International Fund Arts) and Alberto Cornejo Alcaraz, Director of Art Madrid.
