On February 11, 2020, the meeting of the Jury of the 55th REINA SOFIA DE PAINTURA AND ESCULTURA AWARD was held, chaired by José Gabriel Astudillo López, President of the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors, acting as Secretary of the same, Mª Dolores Barreda Pérez, General Secretary of the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors and who has had the vocals Ana Abade Gil, representing Google, Eduardo Naranjo, Painter, sculptor, engraver and Academician of the Royal Academy of Arts and Letters of Extremadura, Alejandro Aguilar Soria, Multidisciplinary artist, curator, gallery owner and author of the visual image of the award, Javier Sierra, Journalist and writer, Tomás Paredes, Art Critic and member of the AICA Awards Committee, Paula Varona, Painter, Rafael Canogar, Painter, sculptor, engraver, Academic and on behalf of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, Ricardo Sanz, Painter and Evaristo Guerra, Pinto r.

The Prize, which has the collaboration of the technology giant GOOGLE, after five editions in the new format, for this edition has expanded its borders with a turn towards internationalization, extending to the creators around the world, thus reflecting the commitment of the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors with art and culture.
The Prize is thus endorsed by an exceptional jury, true art professionals with diverse and very different perspectives on creation, ranging from theory to art practice, and including curating, conservation, journalism … but always with a very special and exclusive link with the field of art they represent.
As the President of the Jury, José Gabriel Astudillo, commented, “in this edition we have had an excellent jury for its diversity and qualification, exceptional for its unconditional support for the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors, with different opinions in an exercise versatile, dynamic and enriching that has managed to combine the artistic genius of the best contemporary artists who have attended the call.
A competent and prestigious jury that has taken deliberation work very seriously, with exciting discussions and helpful sentences that contemplate very different styles and very different techniques, whose energy and dedication have been exemplary and demonstrate that the QUEEN SOFIA DE PAINT AWARD AND SCULPTURE has been granted in an honest and coherent way. ”
It is through their special views and particular approaches that a global vision will be reached, which takes shape in the exhibition of selected works that can be visited from March 6, 2020 at the Casa de Vacas del Parque del Retiro de Madrid, in which to contemplate the subject, the language, the artistic fact, the intuition, the accumulated experience, the knowledge, the tradition, the novelty, the renovation and the vanguard that the sample gathers.
The jury’s decision and the awarding of the Prize will take place on March 5, at an event chaired by S.M. Queen Doña Sofía, Honorary President of the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors, whose unconditional support for the centenary entity is evident just when the institution is 110 years old.
The REINA SOFIA DE PAINTURA Y ESCULTURA AWARD is endowed with 10,000 euros for a single work, which has been chosen from among the more than 300 submitted to edition number 55, a total of 72 works having been selected for the occasion (42 paintings and 30 sculptures), all of them of great quality, which can be visited in Madrid’s Casa de Vacas until March 22.
In this edition not only Spanish artists have participated, but also from countries such as Mexico, Costa Rica, Italy and China, being already well recognized in the international artistic world for being a professional trampoline and continuous support of creators and managing to open the doors of the most select art galleries from around the world.
